Local Sports Media Platform

A custom sports media platform built for City-County Sports to cover high school athletics across our county. The site lets the owner publish articles, categorize content by school and topic, sell ad space, and track impressions and clicks. After 3+ years and 1,600+ articles, it's still running strong with minimal upkeep.

Overview

City-County Sports needed a website to cover local high school athletics and generate revenue through ad sales. Off-the-shelf solutions couldn't handle the custom ad tracking or the flexible categorization the owner needed, so I built something from scratch.

1600+ Articles published. 100+ Schools reported on. Thousands of happy, local visitors.

The Challenge

The owner needed to publish articles quickly, organize them by school and topic, and sell ad space with real data to back it up. That meant building a custom ad system that tracks impressions and clicks, plus a content workflow flexible enough to cover dozens of schools across multiple sports and seasons.

2 Million + ad impressions tracked and counting.

Results

Three years in, City-County Sports has published over 1,600 articles covering 100+ schools, with a custom ad system that's tracked more than 2 million impressions. The minimal upkeep required has kept ongoing costs low for the client while the site continues to grow.

One thing that makes this project stand out: all the ads are direct local sales, not Google ads or programmatic networks. Local businesses supporting local sports coverage. It gives the site the feel of a real community news organization and keeps ad revenue in the area.
